This was my favorite N.E.R.D. song — but I’ve never heard this version before. Stripped down to it’s core, this song is even more amazing.
N.E.R.D. - “Provider”
“Provider” really opened my ears as far as Pharell Williams & Chad Hugo’s musical depth is concerned. The sparse rawness of the track’s instrumentation (led by acoustic guitar and drum kit) and the sincerity in Pharrel’s voice make it sound like a modern-day western tune set somewhere in a desert town. As far as what “drug” the Neptunes are providing, well, that’s up to you to guess. It could be a metaphor… or not.
